This is a part-time 3-5 days / week on a monthly rota contract and an ideal position for someone interested in environmental education and the ancient Celtic culture.
The main aim of this role is to co-ordinate the heritage education programme for schools and visitors at Celtic Harmony Camp.
Celtic Harmony Camp is an Iron Age village located in an outdoor woodland setting, established to promote a better understanding of the natural world through the ancient Celtic culture.
The schools programme involves tasks as varied as leading a group of school children to grind grain on quern stones to restocking materials and supervising the trainee education officers.
The visitor programme involves welcoming visitors and leading a range of ancient craft activities to provide a unique Ôhands-onÕ experience of life in Celtic times.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of Camp for School day
- Ensure all Activity Areas prepared and well stocked
- Check & repair / replace educational tools daily
- Lead craft activities such as grinding grain on quern stones or weaving on looms
- Provide Storytelling to end the day
- Communication with teachers during the day
- Tidying Camp & preparation for next day
- Stock check of materials and First Aid equipment
- Maintenance of facilities: roundhouses, toilets and hand washing
- Check Stock Craft Shop
- Supervise & Co-ordinate trainee education officers
- Develop new educational activities
- Report to Education Manager
Requirements: Own transport necessary, experience in working with children in an outdoor setting and good organizational and communication skills.
Work is rota based and will include some weekends.
